Games for Kids

Playing games is a great way to captivate kids’ imaginations. Games for children can also help develop their learning and development. There are a variety of games both online and offline that can be played for educational purposes or just for fun.

Online Games for Kids

There are a great number of fun games to be found online. The majority of online games are free so there is no need to buy a games console. For kids under five years old, parents may prefer to steer towards learning games such as puzzles and quizzes. These are great for preparing kids for school. Matching pairs games are ideal to test kids’ observational skills and for them to learn different objects. This also goes for shape sorting games which can also be found online. The objective for these is to fit the correct shapes in their respective slots, similar to games found in toy shops.

There are also number and letter games which are ideal to enhance children’s reading abilities and knowledge of mathematics. Count to five is one of the games for children which encourage learning. Any number of the same object up to the number five will be shown. The objective is to count the correct amount of items. This is a fun way for children to learn basic counting skills.

There are also more complex games for older children from ages 10 and up. Easy Sudoku is a great number puzzle and there are also fun versions of Hangman which will improve language skills.

Games for Children to Play at Home or in School

There are many classic board games which have been simplified for younger children to play. These are great to play with the family or for kids to play with their friends. Monopoly Junior is recommended for kids of ages 5 to 8 and can help improve maths skills. There are also travel editions of classic games which are great to pass the time on a long car journey.

Connect 4 is a popular game and has been around since the ‘70’s. The objective is to drop coloured discs into free slots in the game board and get four of the same colour in a row diagonally, horizontally or vertically before the other opponent. Although relatively simple, the game is great to improve kids’ problem solving and observational skills. This game is great for kids of age 6 and up. There are also great variations of popular games such as Scrabble Twister which combines learning with fun and makes it easier to encourage kids to play.

Crafts games involving making something new can encourage creativity and will help them learn new skills. Play Doh and clay are still around and still popular (although messy!). There are plenty of art kits and painting sets which can be found with kids’ favourite characters from TV and film. Kids also like to dress up which also activates their imagination and they can role play with their friends.
