Boys are usually more active and require visual stimulation when playing games, so usually activities which involve racing, shooting, fighting or football are great. Other boys prefer strategy games which involve more thought and skill. Depending on age, there is something for everyone out there; it is just a matter of finding what is suitable.
There are plenty of options online to play games. Playing online has become popular and all you will need is an internet connection and a computer to play. Boys will usually prefer car games or racing games whereas girls will veer towards dress up games. Doing a quick search for ‘online racing games’ or ‘online games for boys’ will bring up lots of results so, it is just a matter of choosing which game you like best. There are rally races, go-karting races and many more to choose from.
There are also a variety of sports games online, including football. Football manager games are available to play free or just play in teams against online opponents or the computer. There are also a variety of strategy games similar to those found on a computer console for boys who prefer a little problem solving. You can play alone or against online opponents in all of these games making it more competitive.
Boys are usually into computer games more than girls and often own a games console. There are plenty to choose from including the Wii and the PlayStation. There is also the PSP which is ideal for playing games in the car or on the move. There are games based on films and television programmes, as well as football games and racing games. A popular game is Football Manager which is a strategy game where players devise their own football teams, buy and sell players and take their team to victory.
There is also the immensely popular Grand Theft Auto where players choose missions and engage in different activities including racing, driving and role-playing. Call of Duty is a shooting game which is also very popular among boys but, as with Grand Theft Auto, is very violent and shouldn’t be played by anyone under 18.Always remember to check the age limit on these games as some are too violent for young children.
The computer games and online games can be played at home or on a portable computer, but some boys may prefer to play offline games. Board games and learning games are perhaps a better choice for very young children as some parents may prefer not to have kids play computer games.
Classic games like Battleships are great to develop problem solving skills. Each opponent tries to guess where the other’s ships are on a grid and sink them. The best thing is you do not even need a board; it can be played with a pencil and paper! Also, themed board games for younger children will engage their interest. SpongeBob and Ben 10 are particularly popular among young kids.
